Grammar skills will count as part of the English grade. Skills such as complete sentences, parts of speech, punctuation, and capitalization will be taught as a part of the English curriculum. There will also be practice activities to do during class and for homework.
Writing will count as the other part of the English grade. This will consist of the proper use of the writing process: prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and post writing. Your child will write several pieces this year including personal and fictional narratives, paragraphs, letters, opinion essays and and informational reports. The students will use revising and editing checklists/ rubrics for formal writing pieces. They normally type a rough draft, then revise and edit before turning in a final copy. You are encouraged to help your child with the revising and editing process. Identical revising and grade checklists/ rubrics will be used for these assignments.
