Accelerated Reader will be used in many ways:
1. Students will take a STAR reading test to determine their independent reading level.
2. Students will take quizzes on books read silently to earn points each nine weeks. All students will need to earn 10 points by the end of the first nine weeks. After that, the teacher and student will determine the number of points, and they will be assigned for each nine weeks.
3. 2 grades will be taken for each nine weeks for AR: one is based on points earned, and the other is the student's quiz average.
4. Accelerated Reader can only be used at school, but students and parents can check progress by clicking on the link below:

We are excited to implement a new web-based curriculum called MobyMax at Marion Local. MobyMax is tailored to your child's individual needs, and I think you will be very impressed by how fast your child will excel while using Moby. Moby's features include:
-Placement tests that accurately identify where your child excels, and where his or her "missing skills" are
-Targeted instruction to "fill in" those missing skills
-Systematic review sessions that ensure that your child retains 100% of what he or she has learned
Best of all, you and your child can access Moby from your home computer at any time.

Encouraging reading is one of the most important things we can do to help your child succeed. It can be tough finding the right books to keep them interested, which is why I am so excited that our class will be participating in Scholastic Reading Club this school year.
With Scholastic Reading Club:
- Every book you buy earns FREE Books for our classroom library
- You can choose from handpicked, grade- and reading-level-specific books for your child
- You'll find the best values on a variety of formats, including eBooks
I'd also love some help growing our classroom Reading Club. If you'd like to help out, please let me know! I'm excited to get our class reading!
